The Parliamentary Committee on Appointments and Public Service, chaired by the Majority Leader of Government Business, Hon. Mathew Sahr Nyuma, on Monday, 4th March 2025, interviewed six presidential nominees appointed to various positions.
In his opening remarks, the Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Mathew sahr Nyuma, welcomed the presidential nominees and the Parliament of Sierra Leone.
He explained that the essence of the Committee is to scrutinize in order to ascertain the ability and competence of the nominees.
Hon Mathew Sahr Nyuma said, “The nominees will be asked questions relating to their various jobs and offices they will be occupying.’’
The interview was centered on issues pertaining to their educational background, proven track records in relevant work situations, and strict procedures, among others.
The Committee interviewed the following presidential nominees: Ambassador Mohamed Foday Yumkella, Proposed Ambassador of Sierra Leone to the Republic of Guinea, Dr. Abdul Rahim Jalloh, Proposed Deputy Minister I, Ministry of Energy, Mr. John Sumailah, Chairman, Rokel Commercial Bank, Madam Mary Massah Katta, Proposed Member, Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority (SLRSA), Mr. David Fortune, Proposed Board Member, dependent Commission for Peace and National Cohesion; and Mr. Moses Baio, Proposed Chief Immigration Officer.
Finally, the presidential nominees were interviewed under oath and with live media coverage to scrutinize them to see how fit they are for their various appointed offices.
