The Auditor-General of Sierra Leone, Mr Abdul Aziz, has challenged 35 newly recruited staff and interns of the Audit Service Sierra Leone (ASSL) to uphold the institution’s reputation by demonstrating integrity, professionalism and a commitment to quality in their work.

He made the call on Wednesday, 19 August 2026, during the opening of a two-week induction programme for the new entrants at the 9th Floor of the Youyi Building in Freetown.

The new entrants comprise 29 staff, including Auditors, a Procurement Officer and ICT Officers, together with six interns assigned to the Audit Service through the European Union (EU) Internship Scheme.

Mr Abdul Aziz told the participants that joining the Audit Service comes with a responsibility that goes beyond their individual roles, as their work directly contributes to accountability, transparency and the proper management of public resources.

He urged them to familiarise themselves with the mandate of the Audit Service and ensure that their professional conduct reflects the values and expectations of the institution.

“Integrity is the watchword of the ASSL,” the Auditor-General stated, stressing that the credibility and effectiveness of the Audit Service depend largely on the integrity, independence and professionalism of its personnel.

He further encouraged the new staff to keep the interests of the people at the centre of their responsibilities, noting that public sector auditing ultimately seeks to promote good governance, strengthen accountability and contribute to improved public service delivery.

The Auditor-General also placed emphasis on the need for quality work, urging the recruits to remain diligent, objective and thorough in the execution of their duties.

He encouraged them to embrace continuous learning, seek guidance whenever necessary and work collaboratively with colleagues to achieve the objectives of the Audit Service.

The two-week induction programme is intended to prepare the new entrants for their respective roles by providing them with a clear understanding of ASSL’s mandate, values, policies, procedures and professional expectations.

Mr Abdul Aziz urged the participants to make full use of the induction programme as they begin their careers with the Audit Service, reminding them that integrity, service to the people and quality should remain central to their work.
