In a pivotal move for Sierra Leone’s transport and aviation sector, the Transport and Aviation Minister, Fanday Turay, recently engaged in fruitful talks with the Vice President of the renowned transport firm, SUMMA.

Many travelers, both Sierra Leoneans and tourists, have been vocal about the escalated costs of using the Freetown Interational Airport (FNA), especially since SUMMA took over its management. The high costs have redirected several travelers to opt for Guinea’s airport, which offers competitive ticket prices, lower security fees, and more affordable passenger amenities.

The primary focus of the meeting was to address these concerns and devise strategies to improve travel affordability, thereby fostering a more promising future for Sierra Leone’s aviation sector.

Minister Turay emphasized this in a recent statement, saying, “I had a very lengthy albeit productive meetings with the Vice President of SUMMA and team few hours ago on making FNA more competitive, thus reducing the cost of travelling to Sierra Leone. We agreed to review the existing agreement which of course will be for the mutual benefit of us all.”

This initiative aims to make travel to and within Sierra Leone more accessible and cost-effective, ultimately contributing to the growth of tourism and the economy.

A concerned citizen raised a question on the Twitter account of Minister Turay, saying “You seem to be having a lot of productive meetings every week, how are these meetings impacting and please give us the results.”

It is evident that most Sierra Leoneans are eagerly awaiting further developments as this collaboration seeks to make travel to and within the country more affordable and efficient.
