Popular lawyer Basita Michael has called on Kandeh Yumkella to publicly support the reinstatement of the suspended Auditor-General, Lara Taylor-Pearce.
Michael highlighted Yumkella’s previous criticism of the Auditor-General’s suspension, which he had condemned as “another nail in the coffin of accountability and democracy” before joining the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP).
Michael expressed concern over Yumkella’s current silence regarding the recommendation for Taylor-Pearce’s removal following a tribunal report. She accused Yumkella of political hypocrisy, suggesting that his lack of response reflects the manipulative nature of politics and the erosion of genuine democratic principles.
At this critical moment, Michael warned that Yumkella’s failure to voice the same outrage and advocate for the reinstatement of Taylor-Pearce and her deputy could tarnish his legacy. She urged him to reaffirm his commitment to accountability and democracy rather than be remembered as complicit in undermining these values
YKK is a sellout. He is in green pastures
YKK’s legacy has already been tarnished. My only question is what us his motivation? I don’t think they offered him that much money, so does he think he will be SLPP flagbearer for president? Even if that were to happen, we now know how you operate YKK, we don’t want you. You should have continued building up your party and think about tomorrow, not just what you want today.
