13-year-old Mariam M. Sesay from the International Secondary School in Freetown has emerged as the top performer in the 2024 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
Achieving an impressive Aggregate 7, she not only excelled within her school but also outshone 121,158 pupils nationwide to secure the first position across Sierra Leone.
Mariam’s outstanding accomplishment has brought immense pride to her family, school, and the nation. Her father, overwhelmed with joy, shared his thoughts on her remarkable achievement:

Having said that, could someone say who got the best grade from the state sector so that we can put things into context and acknowledge what helicopter parenting can do?
No wonder the new UK Government is now taxing private schools to spend more on state schools. In addition, Universities and employers are taking closer looks at contextual grades. Surely a 2B Grade from a state schooler with a challenging social background is worth a 1A from a Private schooler.
