Sierra Leone’s President Julius Maada Bio has announced the appointment of Abdul Malik Tejan-Sie as Director of the Directorate of Science, Technology and Innovation.

Tejan-Sie, a Sierra Leonean innovator will take up his new position from October 1, 2023, according to a letter of appointment signed by Julius F. Sandy, Secretary to the President, and made available to Sierraloaded.

The letter reads; “I have the honour to inform you that it has pleased His Excellency the President, Brig. (Rtd) Julius Maada Bio to appoint you as Director of Science, Technology and Innovation, with effect from 1st October 2023. 

“The terms and Conditions of Service in respect of your appointment will be communicated to you in due course.

“I am to congratulate you on your appointment and to wish you success in this assignment.”

Until his appointment, Tejan-Sie is known for his innovation in developing the first operational humanoid robot in South Africa. He is also the founder of the African School of Technology.

Following his appointment, Tejan-Sie will take over from Michala Mackay who is the current Director and Chief Operating Officer at DSTI.

The DSTI is the science, technology and innovation arm under the office of the President which functions to help the Government of Sierra Leone to deliver on its national development plan effectively and efficiently; and to help transform Sierra Leone into an innovation and entrepreneurship hub.
