President Julius Maada Bio has expressed deep condolences to the victims and families affected by the collapse of a four-story building in Kissy, East Freetown.

The tragic incident occurred on Monday, September 16, 2024, leaving several dead and others trapped under the rubble.

In a statement, President Bio described the event as a “devastating loss” and pledged his government’s full support to rescue efforts and survivors. He assured the public that every available resource would be deployed to aid in the recovery operation.

The National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA) will spearhead the rescue mission with the full backing of the government, according to the president. Bio also announced that a full-scale inquiry would be launched to investigate the cause of the collapse and to ensure such disasters do not occur again.

Authorities continue to search for survivors as emergency personnel remain on-site, working around the clock. The number of casualties is yet to be confirmed as rescue efforts continue.
