President Julius Maada Bio has departed Freetown today, Monday, February 14, 2022 for Monrovia, Liberia to witness the inauguration of the year-long commemoration of the Liberia’s bicentennial anniversary.
Sierraloaded reports that Bio agreed to honour the invitation extended to him by His Excellency Dr. George Manneh Weah, President of the Republic of Liberia to grace the opening ceremony of the Republic of Liberia’s Bicentennial commemoration.
President Dr. Julius Maada Bio will be accompanied by the First Lady of the Republic of Sierra Leone, Madam Fatima Bio. H.E President Bio will return to Sierra Leone on Monday, February 14, 2022.
Liberia was founded in 1822 when freed black slaves started relocating to West Africa from the United States of America. On July 26, 1847, the country proclaimed its independence and became the Republic of Liberia.
The Bicentennial will be celebrated under the theme ” Liberia: The Land of Return – Commemorating 200 Years (1822-2022) of Freedom and Pan-African Leadership” and the slogan “The Lone Star for Forever, Stronger Together.”
Sierra Leone and Liberia have a long-standing bilateral relationship. As a neighbouring country to Liberia, the Bicentennial Commemoration gives Sierra Leone an opportunity to show solidarity with a sister nation.
