On Wednesday, August 7, 2024, Sierra Leone’s President Dr. Julius Maada Bio concluded a successful one-day working visit to Burkina Faso, following an invitation from Captain Ibrahim Traoré, the Head of State of Burkina Faso.
The visit aimed to strengthen bilateral relations between Sierra Leone and Burkina Faso. President Bio was warmly received by President Traoré, who expressed his pleasure at meeting with his counterpart. Both leaders underscored the importance of supporting Burkina Faso as it addresses the ongoing security challenges in the Sahel region.
During the visit, President Bio sought to gain a comprehensive understanding of the situation in Burkina Faso and the broader Sahel area. He noted, “I have had an extensive discussion with President Traoré and now have a full range of the information I wanted as a member of the ECOWAS region and in my capacity as President of the United Nations Security Council for the month of August.”
The meeting highlighted the commitment of both leaders to regional stability and collaboration in addressing security issues affecting West Africa.
