In a significant step toward improving women’s health and addressing maternal mortality in Sierra Leone, President Julius Maada Bio has inaugurated the country’s first fully equipped midwifery school in Kenema.
The facility, a landmark development in the nation’s health sector, also includes a dedicated radio station to promote health education and discussions.
President Bio highlighted the progress made under his leadership, announcing a reduction in maternal mortality rates by over 60%. He attributed this achievement to targeted interventions in the health sector, including initiatives focused on improving women’s access to quality healthcare.
The midwifery school is designed to serve the people of Kenema and the entire nation by training health practitioners with the skills needed to deliver excellent healthcare services.
The facility is equipped with modern resources, ensuring that graduates are well-prepared to meet the demands of maternal and reproductive health care.
