Julius Maada Bio has reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening regional security cooperation following a meeting with Mamadou Tangara, Special Representative of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission in Mali and the Sahel, and Head of the African Union Mission for Mali and the Sahel (MISAHEL).

In a statement released on Tuesday, President Bio said the discussions focused on critical security challenges facing the Sahel region and explored ways to enhance collaboration between regional and continental institutions.

As Chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Authority of Heads of State and Government, Bio emphasized the importance of constructive dialogue and collective action among regional leaders, the African Union, and international partners to address instability across the Sahel.

The Sahel continues to face growing security concerns, including insurgency, terrorism, and political instability. President Bio’s engagement with African Union leadership underscores Sierra Leone’s active role in regional diplomacy and its support for initiatives aimed at promoting peace, stability, and coordinated responses to these challenges.
