President Julius Maada Bio has officially opened a newly constructed multi-purpose building at the 5th Infantry Brigade in Gondama, Bo District, underscoring his administration’s dedication to improving the welfare of Sierra Leone’s military personnel.
The President, in his capacity as Commander-in-Chief of the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF), inspected the facility, which includes a hall, bar area, store, office space, and restrooms, accommodating up to 300 people. The project, personally sponsored by President Bio at a cost of approximately Le3.4 billion (old Leones), aims to boost the morale of the other ranks stationed at the barracks.

He also highlighted ongoing military reforms, including infrastructure development and capacity building across the country.
In a separate engagement, President Bio met with the Army Wives Cooperative Society, praising their sustainable livelihood initiatives, including agriculture and fish farming. He pledged government support to scale up their projects and committed to furnishing their newly completed canteen. “I am proud of what you are doing,” he said, emphasizing the importance of empowering military families.
The President also visited St. Augustine Services Primary School within the barracks, encouraging students to utilize the Free Quality Education Programme. He stressed the importance of education as a tool for opportunity and assured continued investment in the country’s youth.
Brigadier General Alimamy Osman Kamara, the Brigade Commander, and Ibrahim Deen (alias Jox) of Unique Solutions Company Limited, the contractor for the building, accompanied the President during the inspection.
The visit concluded with expressions of gratitude from soldiers, their families, and students for the President’s contributions to the barracks’ development and his message of hope and national unity.
