In a Public Notice published on Monday, July 10, 2023, President Bio announced the appointment of new cabinet ministers who will begin their operations immediately in his second term mandate.
The list of appointed ministers, deputies, and other officials reflects President Bio’s prioritization of women in his appointments, which is seen by many Sierra Leoneans as a fulfillment of his commitment to women’s empowerment during this administration.
Out of the 17 ministers and deputies and 8 other appointments made by the president, ten women have been appointed to key positions. The release, signed by the secretary to the president, Dr. Julius F. Sandi, PHD, provided the following details:
Dr. Ramatulai Wurie (Haja) – Minister of Higher and Technical Education
Ms. Manti Tarawalli – Minister of State, Office of the Vice President
Mrs. Jeneba Bangura – Deputy Minister 1, Ministry of Finance
Mrs. Francess Piagi Alghali – Deputy Minister, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation
Mrs. Emily K. Gogra – Deputy Minister 1, Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education
Mrs. Mamusu Massaquoi – Deputy Minister 2, Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education
Mrs. Fatmata Wurie – Deputy Minister, Ministry of Trade and Industry
Mrs. Ann-Marie Harding – Deputy Commissioner General 1, National Revenue Authority
Mrs. Mariama Koroma – Deputy Commissioner General, National Communications Authority.
