Sierra Leone’s President Julius Maada Bio has released a message on Ash Wednesday reflecting on the significance of Lent and calling for spiritual renewal and love.

Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the 40-day Lenten season, a period of prayer, fasting, and reflection observed by Christians worldwide.

President Bio emphasized that Ash Wednesday serves as a reminder of our mortality and purpose on Earth. He encouraged Sierra Leoneans to use this time for mindfulness, discipline, and spiritual growth.

“The day inspires mindfulness, discipline, and spiritual renewal by letting go of negativity and embracing positive habits,” President Bio stated. “Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent, a sacred forty-day period of fasting, prayer, and self-reflection that prepares one for Easter.”

Connecting the Lenten season with the celebration of women’s empowerment in March, President Bio called for meaningful reflection on our relationship with God and encouraged filling our hearts with love.

“As we celebrate women’s empowerment this March, let us start Lent with meaningful reflections on our relationship with God and fill our hearts with love,” he urged.
