His Excellency President Julius Maada Bio has directed the establishment of a Special Security Unit comprising personnel from the Operational Support Division (OSD) of the Sierra Leone Police and the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF).
The newly formed unit will launch full-scale raids targeting drug peddling hotspots across the country and carry out on-the-spot arrests as part of an intensified national effort to dismantle the kush trade and restore public safety.
This directive follows a high-level meeting convened by President Bio after his recent visit to the Hastings Rehabilitation Centre, where he interacted with recovering victims of kush addiction.
During that visit, the President assured victims that his government would take decisive measures to end the drug epidemic devastating the nation’s youth.
President Bio emphasized his administration’s commitment to combating drug abuse through prevention, rehabilitation, and strict law enforcement. He noted that the creation of the Special Security Unit demonstrates his government’s resolve to disrupt supply chains, arrest offenders, and protect vulnerable communities from the spread of kush and other harmful substances.
The initiative forms part of the government’s broader strategy to strengthen inter-agency collaboration in the fight against narcotics and to safeguard Sierra Leone’s future by protecting its youth from the growing drug menace.
