Sierra Leone’s President, Dr. Julius Maada Bio on Tuesday formally commissioned the headquarters of the West African Insurance Companies Association Reinsurance Corporation PLC at Hill Station in Freetown, reaffirming his government’s commitment to supporting credible investments in Sierra Leone.
Speaking at the ceremony on March 31, 2026, President Bio, who also serves as Chairman of the ECOWAS, said the commissioning marked an important step toward strengthening the country’s financial and insurance sector.

“This morning, Tuesday, March 31, 2026, at Hill Station in Freetown, I formally commissioned the Headquarters of the West African Insurance Companies Association Reinsurance Corporation PLC,” President Bio stated.
The President emphasized that his administration remains focused on creating an enabling environment for private sector growth and regional investment, noting that such developments are essential for economic resilience.
“My government is fully committed to supporting credible investments as we build a resilient and competitive economy,” he said.

The establishment of the reinsurance corporation headquarters in Freetown is expected to enhance regional cooperation in the insurance industry and position Sierra Leone as a hub for financial services within West Africa.
The event brought together government officials, representatives from the insurance sector, and regional stakeholders, underscoring the significance of the project to both national and sub-regional economic development.
