As today, 8th March 2023 marks the celebration of International Women’s Day, Sierra Leone’s President Julius Maada Bio has reaffirmed his support for gender equality.
The president made this commitment in a Tweet as he joins the rest of the world in celebrating women.
The president said his government is committed to promoting gender equality and empowering women in Sierra Leone through the GEWE Act that was passed into law last year.
“On this #IWD, with the theme, “DigitALL: Innovation and Technology for Gender Equality”, I pledge to #EmbraceEquity and reaffirm my Government’s commitment to promoting Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment in #SierraLeone through the landmark GEWE ACT 2022.

International Women’s Day is a global holiday celebrated annually on March 8 as a focal point in the women’s rights movement, bringing attention to issues such as gender equality, reproductive rights, and violence and abuse against women. This year’s International Women’s Day is celebrated with the theme: “Digital Innovation and Technology.”
