Female opposition politician Dr. Sylvia Olayinka Blyden has reacted to the dismissal of her case by the High Court of Sierra Leone against the European Union Election Observation Mission (EU-EOM) and related EU governance support initiatives.

In a social media post, Dr. Blyden described the court’s decision as “the biggest disgrace” of President Julius Maada Bio’s second term, alleging that the government’s legal team mishandled the case.

She specifically criticised senior government officials involved in the defence, including Foreign Minister Timothy Kabba, Solicitor General Robert Kowa, and Attorney General Alpha Sesay, suggesting that their handling of the matter weakened the state’s position rather than strengthening it.

Dr. Blyden wrote:
“President Maada Bio may think his team (Foreign Minister Tim Kabba, Solicitor General Robert Kowa & Attorney General Alpha Sesay) did a good job against Sylvia Blyden in court for the EU case. President Bio does not know they have served him the BIGGEST disgrace of his second term so far. Yes, even bigger than the cocaine ship disgrace. Stay tuned. I’m back from Kono to handle Kukujumuku governance!”

The High Court ruling, delivered on Thursday, May 7, 2026, struck out the case on jurisdictional grounds, stating that it “lacks jurisdiction” to hear the matter. The court based its decision on the Diplomatic Immunities and Privileges Act, No. 35 of 1961, effectively bringing the proceedings to an end at that level.
