Sylvia Blyden has defended United States President, Donald Trump’s America First Policy. She also claimed that Trump is a successful leader whose strong sense of national loyalty has contributed to his political impact.

Speaking to Truth Media, Blyden said Trump’s approach to governance demonstrates what can be achieved when a leader prioritises the interests of their country and citizens. She argued that if Sierra Leone had a president who loved the nation and its people in the same way Trump, in her view, loves America and Americans, at least 50 percent of Africa’s challenges could be addressed.

According to her, Trump’s “America First” philosophy centres on protecting citizens, ensuring national security, and creating conditions for people to thrive. She noted that Trump consistently emphasises keeping Americans safe, strengthening borders, preventing criminals from entering the country, and ensuring that national resources are directed toward the welfare of the people.

She further highlighted what she described as Trump’s focus on fiscal discipline, including cutting unnecessary government spending and improving efficiency within state institutions. She suggested that such measures, if applied responsibly, could help countries like Sierra Leone better manage resources and fund critical national priorities.

However, Blyden was careful to distance herself from some aspects of Trump’s personal style. She stated that she does not aspire to be “Donald Trump-type president,” acknowledging that he can be “obnoxious” at times and may overdo certain actions. Nonetheless, she emphasized that his deep sense of patriotism is something worth emulating.

In terms of loving Sierra Leoneans the way Donald Trump loves Americans, yes, I would go along that line,” she said, stressing the need for leaders with a strong national-first mindset focused on protecting citizens and making the country thrive.

She concluded by calling for a renewed sense of patriotism and leadership commitment aimed at making Sierra Leone great through people-centered governance.
