In order to ensure that business owners and petty traders register and have an opportunity to vote in next year’s general elections, the Bo City Council has announced that there shall be no trading or business activities in the entire City on Saturday 1 October 2022.
The Council made this announcement in a public notice issued today, Thursday 29 September 2022.
The notice reads as follow:
“The general public is hereby informed that on Saturday 1st october, 2022, there shall be no trading/business activity in the entire city of Bo.
This move by the council and key city stakeholders is to allow and ensure business owners/petty traders have time to reach out to voter registration centres across the municipality and get registered to partcipate in the forthcoming general elections in the country.
As a municipal government, the Bo City Council wishes to encourage all Sierra Leoneans to go out to the various registration centres closer to their residences and be registered to be part of the national voting exercise.”
Bo is one of the largest and most populated districts in Sierra Leone, and strong hold of the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP).
The second phase of the ongoing voter registration exercise conducted by the Electoral Commission of Sierra Leone (ECSL) will end on Tuesday, 4th October 2022.
