A delegation from BRAC Microfinance Sierra Leone Ltd on Monday, paid a courtesy visit to the Inspector General of Police (IGP), William Fayia Sellu, to express formal appreciation for what they described as a swift and professional investigation conducted by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), which led to the recovery of Three Hundred and Five Thousand (305,000) Leones.

Speaking on behalf of the delegation, BRAC Microfinance CEO Shimamana Neema Ntuyabaliwe said the visit was intended to convey the institution’s “deepest appreciation” to the leadership of the Sierra Leone Police (SLP).

She commended the CID personnel for their professionalism, noting that the way they handled the matter demonstrated high standards. “They were very professional in the way they conducted themselves throughout the investigation,” she said.

Ntuyabaliwe added that although people often complain about the police, BRAC felt it necessary to record their appreciation and show support when good work is done.

IGP William Fayia Sellu welcomed the BRAC delegation and reflected on his longstanding relationship with the institution during his time as Local Unit Commander in Kenema and Bo between 2011 and 2016.

He highlighted the challenges microfinance institutions face when individuals entrusted with funds begin to treat the money as their personal property. “Some people when you entrust them with money they will think it is their bonafide property they would not want to pay back,” he said. “And that is unacceptable.”

While noting that the SLP is not a debt-collecting institution, the IGP stressed that the police have a duty to intervene in such matters to ensure microfinance operations remain sustainable. He also confirmed receiving BRAC’s Letter of Appreciation and said it would be posted on the SLP website so that it could be shared “far and wide.”

IGP Sellu expressed gratitude to the BRAC team for returning to acknowledge the police effort, describing the gesture as thoughtful and encouraging. The delegation, in turn, assured him that he would soon be invited to one of their upcoming institutional programmes.

The IGP concluded by reaffirming the Sierra Leone Police’s commitment to supporting BRAC Microfinance Sierra Leone Ltd in carrying out its operations across the country.
