Fresh from his official tour of the United States, Sierra Leone’s Chief Minister has travelled to the eastern district of Kailahun to supervise two major development projects.
Accompanied by government ministers, directors, project teams, and warmly received by all 14 Paramount Chiefs, the visit highlighted the administration’s continued commitment to inclusive national development.
The delegation’s first stop was the Bunumbu Campus, home to the historic Bunumbu College founded in 1924. Now part of the Eastern Technical University, the campus is undergoing a major transformation into a modern centre for higher learning.
It will accommodate the Faculty of Education and the Faculty of Agriculture, strengthening the country’s capacity to train teachers and agricultural professionals.
According to project officials, the rehabilitation and expansion work includes:
67 buildings for staff and student housing, laboratories, library, canteen and classrooms
A 3 km campus road network
Additional facilities to support teaching, research and campus life
As of 23rd November 2025, the project is 70 percent complete, with full completion targeted for April 2026 through collaborative efforts involving contractors, engineers and local stakeholders.
The Chief Minister also inspected the 180-meter Manowa Bridge, a vital transport project linking communities, chiefdoms and markets across Kailahun District. Located in the heart of the cocoa-producing belt, the bridge is expected to ease mobility, improve market access and boost livelihoods in one of Sierra Leone’s most productive agricultural regions.
Throughout the visit, the Chief Minister engaged with residents, held town hall dialogues and encouraged community-driven development initiatives. Reaffirming his philosophy of Radical Inclusion, he noted:
“We must stop at nothing until everyone, especially those in the hardest-to-reach areas, also gets services,” said David Moinina Sengeh.
The rehabilitation of Bunumbu College and the construction of the Manowa Bridge together underscore Sierra Leone’s broader push to expand access to education, strengthen rural economies and ensure development reaches even its most remote communities.
