The British High Commissioner to Sierra Leone Lisa Chesney has stated that she has no interest in any party winning the upcoming elections or supporting any particular politician, even if they shared the same values and interests.

She made this known during an interview with local radio station, Radio Democracy, amid allegations of her meddling in the country’s politics.

Chesney stated that there are politicians she has had various discussions with, including the Minster of Gender, Manty Tarawallie, who was promoting the interest of women and Government of Sierra Leone in New York.

She further revealed that she has had several discussions with the former Mayor of Freetown, Yvonne Aki Sawyer, during her time in office. She described her as a strong female leader.

The British High Commissioner added that she will continue to engage anyone across the political spectrum, including civil society and others that wants to talk to them or cares about issues that matter.

She confirmed that she will not endorse any candidate because that is not her job.

Responding to the re-tweeting of Yvonne Aki-Sawyer’s declaration post, Chesney said that there is nothing liked or re-tweeted on her account. She added that the account doesn’t belong to her.

She further pointed out that if she talks to the government, opposition members and civil society organizations will raise concerns for different reasons, noting that her diplomatic partners also have concerns at some of the attacks directed at them.

The Commissioner said that she is really passionate about the people of Sierra Leone getting the elections that they deserved.

‘’We have all got a responsibility in different ways to try and reduce the heat, take the heat out and make sure there is a free and fair multi-party elections,’’ she stated.

Her response came after former Minister of  Social Welfare, Gender and Children’s Affairs, Dr. Sylvia Blyden criticised her for meddling in Sierra Leone’s internal politics. (Alprazolam)   The former minister was angry at the British High Commissioner’s alleged liking of a Twitter post, where the Ex-Mayor of Freetown, Yvvone Aki Sawyer declared her intentions  to run for a second term in office.
