A group of concerned students from Njala University Bo Campus has brought to light pressing issues regarding Student Union Government (SUG) elections and the financial burden placed on Sierra Leone Grant Aid (SLG) students.
A letter addressed to the Minister of Higher and Technical Education and signed by a collective of students under the banner concerned student Njala University Bo campus emphasizes the urgent need for SUG elections to be conducted promptly. The absence of an elected SUG, they argue, hampers effective representation and advocacy for the student body.
Furthermore, the students express their dismay over the recent decision requiring SLG students to pay 50% of their fees. They seek clarification from the Minister regarding his alleged involvement in this decision, emphasizing the financial strain it imposes on SLG students who are already facing limited resources.
The letter not only highlights the students’ concerns but also underscores the importance of transparency and accountability in addressing such matters. The students express their trust in the Minister’s commitment to the welfare of students in higher and technical institutions, urging a swift resolution to the issues raised.
In addition to the Minister, copies of the letter have been sent to various university officials including the Vice-Chancellor, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Registrar, and Head of Department at Njala University Bo Campus, as well as the District Director of Education.
As the students await a response from the Minister and relevant authorities, the spotlight remains on Njala University Bo Campus, where the call for student representation and financial fairness reverberates among the student body.
