An Inauguration Ceremony has been conducted for the New Student Union Executive at the Canadian University of Modern Technology in Mile 91.

The Inauguration ceremony took place on Friday May 6th, 2022 at the Canadian College campus

The auspicious occasion attracted a cross section of CUMT students and staff and some invited guests.

Speaking at the event, Musa Aiahson Koroma and Mohamed Chernor who are both third year Mass Communication Students at CUMT and are serving as the new students’ Minister of Information and Communications and Chief Minister respectively, appreciated the presence of all and sundry and informed that the gathering was one of its kind and that it was deemed appropriate, noting that it has the penchant of boosting development for CUMT students. They preached messages of collaboration and facilitation and to see that the vision of the new SU was fully achieved.

Making a statement, CUMT’S Director of Students’ Affairs, Ms. Zoe Amieli Cooper congratulated the new executive and stated the essence of working in line with set principles and standards. She disclosed that her Office will closely work with students so as to continue to enhance a more conducive and favourable environment at CUMT.

Registrar of CUMT, Adam Goguen said that the Inauguration Ceremony was timely and formal and called on students to be law abiding at all times. He informed that the CUMT Administration has established procedures that all students should follow, adding that deviating from same is not the best of practices.

CUMT’S Special Assistant to the Vice Chancellor, Jacob Sax Conteh Snr said that the Inauguration Ceremony was necessary and called on students to respect the University’s Code of Conduct. He also admonished all and sundry to inculcate the ideas of unity and oneness, furthering that such tenets were needed in any environment and that CUMT should not be an exception.

In his handing over statement, CUMT’S former SU President, Abdulai Tamba Lebbie disclosed how his tenure was largely regarded to be a success, noting that he has his colleagues in the executive and the University Administration to thank. He spoke on the several reforms that his tenure was able to accomplish, adding that the new executive now has a task of consolidating on such gains.

Lebbie further called on students to be supportive to the new SU executive and to see that more progress is achieved at CUMT.

CUMT’S New SU President, Mohamed Deen Bangura shortly after he was Sworn In showcased utmost delight, having won the SU elections, and used the opportunity to congratulate his opponents, noting that the best possible options was for all of them to work as a team.

Deen further called on the University Administration to be supportive to the Student Union, adding that such was one sure way of achieving enviable aims and aspirations.

The new SU President said that he was not a man of several promises, but assured that he will do all within his limits to bring more goodies for the CUMT students and the administration in general. He said that the Inauguration Ceremony was one of such ways where his new executive has already shown that they can go the extra mile to make things happen.

The Inauguration Ceremony ended with a brief performance from the CUMT Choir and with a vote of thanks which was succinctly done by the new CUMT SU Vice President, Ibrahim Alusine Kamara.

Later that same evening, a fierce, enticing and thrilling football match was played between students of the Arts and Commerce Faculty and those in the Science and Technology Faculty. The match which ended 3 all will be replayed at a later date as would be announced by the new SU Executive.
