Chief Minister, David Moinina Sengeh has responded to President Julius Maada Bio’s taunts about the Prince of Wales (POW) School during the annual Speech Day and Prize-Giving Ceremony at Bo Government Secondary School.
President Bio, an alumnus of Bo School, made fun of the Prince of Wales School where Sengeh is an alumnus mentioning a “Wrangler” vehicle that broke down and a lion mascot that was expected to take part in a march-past but never appeared.
In an interview after the event, Sengeh said, “The President is my boss, but he made fun of us yesterday in a funny way. It wasn’t our fault that the lion didn’t come the IG (Police Inspector-General) didn’t allow it to be brought into the country.”
When asked which school is the best in Sierra Leone, the Chief Minister said several schools across the country have different strengths. “Prince of Wales is one of the greatest schools, and Bo School is a wonderful school. Bo has the chiefs, and POW has the princes and kings,” he said.
He also spoke about leadership and community connection. “Leadership is about being with the people having breakfast with them, jogging with them. Not just walking past in suits. That’s what President Bio has shown, and we are learning from him.”
Although the Chief Minister is not an alumnus of Bo School, he has maintained a close relationship with the institution. When he was Minister of Education, he attended every OBBA (Old Bo Boys Association) event and often served as a speaker.
After he became Chief Minister, he was honoured with an official Bo School admission number at one of the school’s past events. “All my brothers went to Bo School, and now that I’ve been given an admission number, I feel like I belong,” he said.
The guy is a genius nobody can set him up with his boss, he’s always ahead of the next question that comes his way.
