Sierra Leone’s Minister of Health and Sanitation, Austin Demby, has shed light on a brief yet impactful conversation he had with Michel Sidibe, the former under-secretary-general at the United Nations and executive at UNAIDS, regarding the challenges posed by Kush in the country.

The revelation came as Minister Demby shared insights from his encounter with Sidibe during a chance meeting at the Skyview Hotel in Addis Ababa. According to Demby, the impromptu discussion lasted a mere five minutes but delved into crucial strategies for addressing the issue of Kush in the region.

“In the hallways of the Skyview hotel, Addis, I ran into my good friend and brother, Michel Sidibe. In 5 minutes, we discussed tapping into the incredible African diaspora and explored public approaches to dealing with Kush in the region,” stated Minister Demby.

This collaboration between the Sierra Leonean Health Minister and the seasoned former UN official highlights a commitment to finding innovative solutions to the challenges posed by Kush. The emphasis on leveraging the African diaspora and exploring public health approaches suggests a comprehensive and proactive stance in tackling the issues at hand.

As Sierra Leone continues to grapple with the impact of Kush, this collaborative effort signals a promising step towards a more robust and effective response to the public health concerns associated with the substance.
