The Directorate of Science, Technology and Innovation (DSTI), in collaboration with the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) and Victory Teens Organisation (VTO), has launched an ICT Training Programme for police personnel across Freetown, Kenema, and Makeni.
Speaking from the DSTI and SLP angle, officials highlighted that the programme forms part of ongoing efforts to digitise police systems, ensuring officers are adequately equipped with the necessary ICT competencies. They noted that the training is a critical step towards improving efficiency, accountability, and modern service delivery within the police force.

Speaking on behalf of VTO, Director Madam Florence Finda Lebbie described the programme as a long-term investment in police officers, stronger institutions, and national development. She further announced scholarship opportunities, including fully funded ICT and vocational training for eligible police officers and their children.
DSTI Project Manager Tigidankay Bah explained that the training emerged from discussions on digitising the Police Human Resource Management System. She said the consultations revealed the need to first build officers’ digital skills before rolling out wider systems. She also noted that DSTI has trained and certified more than 83,000 Sierra Leoneans through its digital learning programmes over the past five years.

The programme commenced with an orientation session at the Digital Learning Hub in Makeni, where more than 40 officers from the Makeni Police Division were introduced to the Tech 101 Programme.
Finally, the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Sahid Umaru Senesie, encouraged participants to fully embrace the training and apply the skills acquired to strengthen policing and enhance public service delivery nationwide.
