A delegation from the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) visited the ECOWAS Logistics Depot in Lungi, Sierra Leone, on March 5th, 2024, and expressed their satisfaction with its progress.

The delegation, led by the Minister of Planning and Economic Development (MoPED) of Sierra Leone, Kenyeh Barley, included high-level officials from ECOWAS, including Professor Nazifi Abdullahi Darma, Commissioner of Internal Services, and H.E. Ambassador Abdel-Fatau MUSAH, PhD., Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace, and Security.

The visit aimed to assess the project’s progress and discuss its future development. The delegation was impressed by the depot’s near completion, with construction reaching 98% as of mid-January 2024.

Discussions also focused on securing additional land for potential future expansion, a request formally submitted by the Sierra Leone government in 2023. Commissioner Darma emphasized the critical role the depot plays in enhancing regional peace and security, highlighting ECOWAS’s commitment to combatting regional threats. He commended the collaborative efforts of the Sierra Leone government and the ECOWAS team in bringing the project to fruition.

Additional discussions centered on enhancing security measures, ensuring a reliable power supply, managing stormwater drainage, and securing additional land for the depot’s long-term needs.

Amb. Arouna Moussa, ECOWAS resident representative in Sierra Leone, expressed his delight at the project’s progress and commended all parties involved, including the ECOWAS Commission, the Sierra Leone government, the project contractors, and the resident staff for their dedication to completing the depot.
