Sierra Leone’s Presidential Press Secretary, Keketoma Sandi, has confirmed that Edmond Sylvester Alpha will continue in his role as Chief Electoral Commissioner and Chairman of the Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone (ECSL).

Sandi made the announcement, emphasizing that this decision is in full accordance with the law governing the position.

In a statement released from the State House, Sandi outlined that Mr. Alpha will remain at the helm of the Electoral Commission as he works to advance ongoing electoral reforms.

His leadership will focus on deepening engagement with key stakeholders, particularly political parties, to ensure the integrity of the electoral process.

Sandi highlighted the critical role of these reforms in ensuring that the 2028 general elections are conducted in a free, fair, and credible manner, reinforcing the country’s commitment to strengthening its democratic processes.

The Press Secretary also stressed the importance of national unity and collective effort in the lead-up to the 2028 elections. “All stakeholders must move forward with a shared focus on the nation’s interests, and remain committed to serving the people,” Sandi said.
