The Minister of Basic and Senior Secondary Education, Mr. Conrad Sackey, oversaw the commissioning of 29 ultramodern Early Childhood Development Centers in Taiama, Moyamba District, marking a significant stride in expanding educational facilities across Sierra Leone.
These centers, jointly supported by the GPE, OSIWA, and UNICEF, bring the total number of such centers to 59 nationwide, benefitting over 4,000 children.
Minister Sackey reaffirmed the government’s commitment to free quality education from Pre-Primary to Senior Secondary levels, referencing sections 22.1 and 22.2 of the Basic and Senior Secondary Education Act of 2023.
The government also announced plans to recruit 2000 new teachers and reassess 2500 more in the upcoming fiscal budget. Minister Sackey, accompanied by dignitaries and international representatives, praised President Julius Maada Bio’s leadership in championing foundational learning and securing global support for reducing learning poverty by 2030.
The Minister engaged extensively with various stakeholders to emphasize collaborative efforts in advancing Sierra Leone’s education.
