The ongoing DNA case involving Justice Momoh Jah Stevens took a dramatic turn on Wednesday after Edwina Hawa Jamiru, the woman at the center of the paternity dispute, initially refused to comply with a High Court order mandating a DNA test.
According to judicial sources, Edwina resisted the process for more than two hours, insisting she would not subject herself or her child to the test.
Her refusal reportedly prompted court officials to summon police officers from the Law Court Building to enforce the court order.
Police sources confirmed that during the standoff, Edwina allegedly threatened to harm her child if she was forced to comply.
However, following firm intervention by law enforcement officers, she eventually handed over the child, allowing medical personnel to collect DNA samples at Ramzy Laboratory and EcoMed for analysis.
Earlier on Wednesday, reports indicated that Edwina had categorically refused to participate in the DNA process, stating she was prepared to raise the child alone and no longer wished for Justice Stevens to be involved.
The High Court of Sierra Leone had previously directed that the DNA test be conducted under transparent and independent conditions, including the possibility of conducting the analysis abroad to ensure credibility.
The case has since drawn significant public interest and debate, touching on issues of judicial accountability, parental rights, and the enforcement of court orders in sensitive family disputes.
Further developments are expected as the DNA results are processed and the court resumes hearings on the matter.
