The Feed Salone initiative is set to host key representatives from government ministries, agencies, the private agricultural food sector, finance, and development partners tomorrow, on the 20th of February 2025, at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Freetown.

This meeting aims to deliberate on crucial issues necessary for achieving the results outlined in the Feed Salone Implementation Plan, specifically Pillar 3.

The Feed Salone initiative aims to boost food security and inclusive economic growth in Sierra Leone through targeted investments. Pillar 3 focuses on developing aggregation, processing, and marketing of agri-food products to enhance competitiveness both domestically and in international markets.

An implementation plan has been developed to operationalize the Feed Salone strategy under Pillar 3, guiding this process. Through this plan, the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (MAFS) aims to introduce a lower fiscal burden on the government by reducing importation, increasing exports, and creating pathways for self-sustainable food security in Sierra Leone. The plan also encourages private sector-led growth while ensuring active engagement of women and youth. Additionally, it promotes approaches that ensure inclusive, sustainability, nutritional outcomes, and job creation.

This interactive dialogue is organized as part of Sierra Leone’s collaboration with the European Union (EU) and the involvement of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) under the framework of the “Sustainable Agri-food Systems Intelligence” initiative (SASI). The SASI initiative, implemented with the assistance of FAO, supports countries in translating national goals and plans into operational programs, policies, and investments that enhance the economic, environmental, and social sustainability of their agri-food systems. Sierra Leone is one of five countries selected for this global initiative.
