Hands of Our Girls campaign will this month of December celebrates its 4th anniversary since its launched in December 2018. It has been reportedly unveiled that the elected President of the Organization of African First Ladies for Development (OAFLAD), H.E Mrs Monica Geingos from Namibia will jet to Sierra Leone this week on a solidarity visit to H.E Mrs Fatima Bio.
OAFLAD is a community of First Ladies from across Africa who amalgamated and anchored on one goal to make a significant contribution to the health and well-being of children, youth and women in Africa.
With several projects the body undertakes, they are geared to their prime focus on HIV and AIDS, Non-communical Diseases (NCDs), Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn and Child Health (RMNCH), Gender Equality Women and Youth Empowerment, Social Security and Protection including Persons with Disabilities, Institutional Capacity Strengthening.
Since the launched of the Hands of Our Girls campaign in 2018, it has created significant changes in the mindsets of Sierra Leoneans about girls. The campaign has specifically brought awareness, influence policy and support women and girls to have access to reproductive healthcare and treatment for conditions like Fistula and Cancer. The campaign has also immensely contributed to eliminate abuses like early childhood marriage, gender-based violence and rape.
As the project prepares to celebrate its 4th anniversary of successful objectives implementation, First Lady of the Republic of Namibia H.E Monica Geingos will grace this occasion. It is anticipated that the First Lady of Namibia will travel with her husband, Namibian President Hage Geingob.
Madam Monica Geingos, First Lady of the Republic of Namibia is a qualified lawyer. Before becoming the First Lady in 2015, Madame Geingos spent 15 years of her professional career in the financial sector, as a private equity and governance expert. The First Lady is also the UNAIDS Special Advocate on Young Women and Adolescent Girls. The focus areas of her office are Enterprise Development and Entrepreneurship, Integrated Early Childhood Development, Gender-based violence, and Health.
