The Mayor of Freetown, Yvonne Aki-Sawyer has been shortlisted for the 2021 World Mayor Prize with 32 other mayors from 21 countries.
Her Worship is shortlisted with other 32 mayors from 21 countries. They are shortlisted base on their leadership during the Covid pandemic that provided their communities with protection and assurance.
“Happy to share that I have been announced as a finalist for the 2021 World Mayor Prize!
I have been identified as one of 32 mayors from 21 countries whose leadership is committed to ensuring N environmentally sustainable and equitable future for our most vulnerable residents.” She wrote.
The shortlist for the 2021 World Mayor Prize, was announced on 3 February 2021. It includes 32 mayors from 21 countries whose leadership during the Covid pandemic has provided their communities with protection and assurance. To be shortlisted, mayors showed an awareness of the long-term implications of the pandemic.
The 2021 World Mayor shortlist includes mayors from some of the world’s largest metropolises but also many from medium-sized and smaller towns and cities. The World Mayor Project features the challenges mayors face in different parts of the world and highlights their achievements. World Mayor 2021 will honour those who have convinced their fellow citizens that they strive for a civic society that is Stronger, Fairer and Greener.
The list of Finalists for the 2021 World Mayor Prize and Awards was published on 1 July 2021. The winner will be announced on 14 September 2021.
