The Fullah Progressive Union (FPU) is set to provide NLe500,000 in scholarships for female undergraduate Students.
This will be the fourth annual session of the scholarship that is geared towards helping undergraduate students with a remarkable offer to boost their educational careers.
Under the theme “The Role of Education in Peace Building and National Cohesion,” this initiative aims to empower deserving undergraduate students, with a special focus on women, through financial assistance totaling Five Hundred Million Old Leones.
During the launch event, Dr. Mohamed Hasmieu Barrie, the FPU’s Education Secretary, reiterated the organization’s steadfast dedication to education, especially in fields such as science, technology, and foundational learning. Dr. Barrie emphasized the establishment of an education committee post the 2019 executive election as evidence of the FPU’s enduring commitment to educational progress.
President Alhaji Umaru Sanu Barrie of the Fullah Progressive Union highlighted the transformative impact of education, noting that over the past four years, the scholarship scheme has fulfilled the aspirations of numerous students.
Dr. Haja Ramatulai Wurie, Minister of Technical and Higher Education, graced the occasion as the keynote speaker, lauding the scholarship scheme for its role in promoting peace and national unity. Dr. Wurie commended the FPU executive for prioritizing education and aligning it with the government’s Free Quality Education initiative. She particularly praised the emphasis on empowering women, who constitute seventy per cent of the scholarship beneficiaries.
Since its inception, the scholarship scheme has benefitted over four hundred students from diverse backgrounds. Plans are underway to expand outreach to support more than a thousand students in the near future. Additionally, the Owner of Pavi Fort Group of Companies has pledged an additional Five Hundred Thousand Leones, significantly augmenting the scholarship fund to a total of 1 million Leones.
