The Ghanaian High Commissioner in Sierra Leone, His Excellency Senator Yawlui, paid a courtesy call on the Mayor of Freetown, Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr, on August 21, 2025, at her office.
According to Mayor Alie-sawyerr, the purpose of the visit was to foster and strengthen bilateral relations between Ghana and Sierra Leone, with a particular focus on regional collaboration and development.
During the engagement, Mayor Aki-Sawyerr and the High Commissioner discussed opportunities for joint initiatives that could enhance economic growth, cultural exchange, and regional stability.
‘’We spoke about the importance of regional collaboration on development and cultural issues at both national and sub-national levels.’’

I was pleased to inform High Commissioner His Excellency Senator Yawlui of Freetown’s longstanding partnership with the City of Accra as both cities are members of the C40 Cities network. She stated.
Also, Mayor Aki-Sawyerr informed that earlier in the day, she had welcomed representatives from the Australian High Commission, led by Daniel Featherston, Counsellor Climate Change.
‘’Our discussions focused on Freetown City Council’s Climate Action Plan and the challenges of securing adequate climate financing to deliver on the plan.’’ She said.
