GOAL Sierra Leone has empowered seven local fishing groups in different communities as part of their efforts towards supporting local fishing communities and reducing post-harvest loss in these communities.

This initiative by GOAL Sierra Leone represents a significant step towards empowering local fishing communities and promoting sustainable practices in the sector. The event underscored the collaborative efforts between the organization, government officials, and community representatives in addressing crucial challenges faced by these communities.

They provided these communities with essential equipment in a “Revolving Loan” and they include, Baw-Baw, King Jimmy, Shella Water, Moa wharf, Tambakula, Capital and Walpole today received as the first face.

They revealed that this initiative aimed to equip these groups with freezers, Colemans, and stabilizers, thereby enhancing their ability to preserve their catch effectively.

The handover ceremony was graced by the presence of the Deputy Minister of Fisheries and Marine Resources, Hon. Haja Isata Abdulai-Kamara, who commended GOAL for its innovative approach to supporting these communities. During the event, six groups received 15 Colemans, four freezers, and four stabilizers each, while the group from King Jimmy received three freezers, ten Colemans, and three stabilizers.

The total support extended by GOAL to these communities included ninety-five (95) Colemans, twenty-five(25) freezers and twenty-five stabilizers.

In her statement, Hon. Haja Isata Abdulai-Kamara thanked and appreciated GOAL Sierra Leone for such a great work in helping the local people be capacitated.

She encouraged the beneficiaries to make the most of the equipment provided, emphasizing the importance of productivity and responsibility in ensuring the sustainability of the program. She also highlighted the need for recipients to repay the loan to enable others in the community to benefit from similar assistance.

Representatives from the beneficiary communities expressed their gratitude to GOAL for the impactful and transformative intervention and pledged to utilize the equipment responsibly. They vowed to adhere to the guidelines set forth by GOAL, ensuring that others in need could benefit from similar support in the future.
