The Ministry of Information and Civic Education has announced that the 2026 National Presidential Town Hall will take place on June 30 at the Public Square in Makeni, continuing the government’s drive to decentralize high-level civic engagement.

The event, held under the theme “Year of Action,” provides a platform for direct dialogue between President Julius Maada Bio and citizens, fostering transparency, accountability, and public participation in national development.

This year’s town hall marks the third edition of the annual forum. The inaugural event was held in Freetown in 2024, where President Bio personally engaged with citizens in a live, three-hour session, answering questions on youth employment, the Feed Salone initiative, and Sierra Leone’s foreign policy aspirations.

In 2025, the town hall was hosted in Kenema—the first time it was held outside the capital. More than 25 Cabinet Ministers represented the President, addressing approximately 50 questions on issues including free quality education, child rights, the Safe Motherhood Bill, and the Tripartite Recommendations. The Kenema event was preceded by quiz and debate competitions for secondary schools, commemorating the Day of the African Child.

Minister of Information and Civic Education, Chernor Bah, previously disclosed the Makeni venue during the Ministry’s staff retreat on Bonthe Island, emphasizing that the move aims to expand civic education outreach to northern communities and ensure that voices from all regions are represented in national conversations.

“The Presidential Town Hall serves as a platform to bring the Presidency closer to the people to discuss national development issues,” Bah said at the retreat.

The initiative aligns with President Bio’s “Year of Action” agenda, which prioritizes accountability, service delivery, and stronger communication between government and citizens.

Further details on the format and participation will be announced by the Ministry in the coming weeks.
