The Government of Sierra Leone has through a Press Release announced public holidays to mark Christmas, Boxing Day and New Year Celebrations.
Christians celebrate Christmas Day as the anniversary of the birth of Jesus of Nazareth, the Boxing Day is a holiday celebrated after Christmas Day, occurring on the second day of Christmastide and the New Year Day is celebrated by all to mark a new beginning.
The Christmas, Boxing Day and the New Year holidays are celebrated on the 25th, 26th December and the 1st of January respectively and this year, the first falls on sunday.
Therefore, with respect to the public holiday act of 1932, which states that if an holiday falls on sunday, the next day shall be kept as a public holiday, Monday 2nd January have been declared by the government of Sierra Leone as public holiday.
