The Ministry of Health (MoH) and Partners in Health (PIH) have launched a Joint Hospital Management Framework (JHMF) at the Koidu Government Hospital (KGH) in Kono, aimed at improving hospital management, accountability, and quality healthcare delivery.

The framework is part of a three-year partnership agreement designed to strengthen coordination between Koidu Government Hospital and the Maternal Center of Excellence (MCOE), allowing both facilities to operate under a shared leadership and management approach.

The initiative seeks to improve planning, accountability, and the effective use of health resources, including medical equipment, drugs, and other essential supplies. It is also expected to promote learning opportunities, professionalism, and stronger monitoring systems within both facilities.

The introduction of the JHMF is seen as an important step in supporting the continued development of the Maternal Center of Excellence, with the Ministry of Health and PIH working together to improve maternal and newborn health services through shared expertise, data use, and coordinated planning.

Speaking at the launch, Deputy Chief Medical Officer for Clinical Services at the Ministry of Health, Dr. Mustapha Kabba, said the development of Koidu Government Hospital is ongoing, with plans to introduce additional specialized services.

He revealed that plans are underway to establish a dialysis unit, CT scanner, and endoscopy unit to bring advanced diagnostic and treatment services closer to patients in the region.

Dr. Kabba said the long-term vision is for Koidu Government Hospital to become a tertiary and teaching hospital, expanding healthcare services and contributing to the training of future health professionals.

Senior Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Health, Mr. Andrew L. Sorie, described the joint agreement as a major step towards transforming the facility into a model healthcare institution.

Mr. Sorie said the partnership between the Ministry and Partners In Health provides a strong foundation for improved healthcare delivery but noted that its success will depend on the commitment of healthcare workers and support from the community.

He encouraged staff to maintain professionalism, discipline, accountability, and teamwork as efforts continue to make Koidu Government Hospital a leading centre for maternal and child healthcare in Sierra Leone and the wider African region.
