Sierra Leone High Commission in Ghana held a sod-turning ceremony on Thursday, September 19th to construct a new chancery at Cantonments.

The ceremony was between the Government of Sierra Leone, the High Commission in Ghana, and the construction company JULAK General Construction.

Giving an overview of the Project, the Chief Executive Officer of JULAK General Construction, Richard Donkor said the project timeline is 12 months but as a company they will try their best to complete it before that time.

The scope of work he said, consists of various offices in a three-story building with the finance offices on the ground floor, and other administrative offices including the Head of Chancery, Counselor, and High Commissioner’s offices will occupy the other floors or levels. Two conference rooms he added form part of the project.

He thanked the Government of Sierra Leone for trusting his company JULAK with such responsibility while promising to deliver very good work with great standards.

Speaking on behalf of the High Commission of Sierra Leone in Accra, Ghana, Head of Chancery, Joseph Spencer Thornton thanked everyone for witnessing such a landmark event and appreciated God for making it possible.

He commended the erstwhile High Commissioner, Francess Virginia Anderson (PhD), for initiating the process of having a befitting chancery as the Sierra Leone High Commission in Ghana.

The project he said is commencing on solid ground with support from the Government of Sierra Leone and the guidance of Dr. Anderson, who led the team at the Sierra Leone High Commission in actualizing this project.

Thornton commended the entire staff for their continued support in the operations of the High Commission in Ghana.

Representing the Government of Sierra Leone and during his statement, Philip Brima Kabba, Counsellor at the High Commission said the government after going through the necessary formalities of procurement, among other things, decided to award the contract of a new Chancery building in Ghana for the Sierra Leone High Commission to JULAK General Construction.
The sole funder of the project Kabba noted is the Government of Sierra Leone.

The event was climaxed with the turning of Sod on the grounds where the Head of Chancery, Joseph Spencer Thornton, symbolically carried it out.
