The Inspector General of Sierra Leone Police, William Fayia Sellu has issued a firm directive instructing all police personnel across the country to comply with the Subscriber Identification and Registration Management Regulations, as enforced by the National Telecommunications Authority (NaTCA).
In a circular dated 26th June 2025, signed by CP Ismail Keita on behalf of the IGP, all Regional Commanders, Directors, Local Unit Commanders (LUCs), and Heads of Departments (HoDs) were directed to ensure that police officers under their command register their SIM cards with their National Identification Numbers (NINs) as reflected on their National Identity Cards no later than 30th September 2025.
This move follows the implementation of directives under the National Communications Authority Act 2022, which grants NaTCA greater regulatory powers to manage the telecommunications sector and align with global digital transformation standards.
The enforcement measures will be rolled out in two phases: From 1st October 2025, all non-compliant SIM cards will be barred from making calls while from 1st November 2025, both incoming and outgoing calls will be blocked for unregistered numbers.
“This is a matter of national compliance and operational efficiency,” the directive urged commanders to treat the matter with urgency and ensure full cooperation.
What does it has to do with the police officers or what impact does it make?
