Inspector General of Police (IGP) William Fayia Sellu and the Executive Director of the Road Safety Authority (RSA), James Bio, on Thursday, 4th December 2025 spearheaded a major decongestion operation along Jenneh Wright Road, Ross Road, and Fourah Bay Road in Cline Town, Freetown.
The initiative, carried out in line with the SLP’s mandate to support Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), focused on the removal of stationary and abandoned vehicles that had long obstructed traffic flow in the area.
For months, these critical routes had been clogged with disused trailers and container trucks headed for the Quay, turning a normally 5–10 minute journey into hours of gridlock. The situation caused significant frustration for motorists, commuters and residents.
Pedestrians who witnessed Thursday’s operation confirmed that the persistent congestion had forced commercial vehicles to stop midway on their routes to and from the far east of Freetown and Waterloo, worsening transport challenges for thousands of daily commuters.
The successful clearing of the roads has restored free movement of vehicles and eased the stress of pedestrians, many of whom had resorted to long walks after work due to blocked access. Authorities also expect the intervention to reduce the double and triple fare hikes previously imposed by commercial drivers.
Residents and road users have welcomed the operation as timely and impactful, praising the Police and RSA for the swift and coordinated response. Many expressed hope that strict regulations will be maintained to prevent a recurrence of abandoned vehicles along the routes.
