The Inspector General of Police, Ambrose Sovula has said that despite the nationwide claims of kidnapping cases, the police are yet to receive a single report from members of the public relating to such allegations.

He said this while making his short remarks during the official signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ) and the Security Sector comprising of ONS, SLP, RSLAF, NFF, SLCS and CISU at the ONS Conference Hall on Tuesday 2nd November 2021.

He called on the media to support the security sector towards denouncing such false claims that have the tendency of creating unrest in society, disclosing that most of such claims on the social media of kidnapping across the country are baseless as some people are just trying to play funny games towards scaring people.

“Let us don’t destroy our country because of discrimination. What does it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses his soul,” he cautioned, maintaining “there is no kidnapping” across the country?

It could be recalled that there were series of videos and audios making the rounds on social media in which people were claiming to have caught persons involved in kidnapping which to some extent has forced parents and guardian to warn their children to stay off free vehicle ride and also cease staying out late at night.

These claims have also reduced the number of people going out at night-to-night clubs, bars, pubs and even the beach despite the festive season fast approaching.
