A Sierra Leonean international journalist, Abu Shaw has urged United States President Donald Trump to invade Sierra Leone and remove President Dr. Julius Maada Bio from power, alleging that Bio stole the country’s 2023 presidential election.

Speaking during a live British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) program, Shaw, who is widely known for his partisan support of the opposition All People’s Congress (APC) party, claimed that recent events in Venezuela were comparable to Sierra Leone’s political situation.

I am from Sierra Leone, and we are very happy that the president of Venezuela has been overthrown because the similarities between Venezuela and Sierra Leone are similar,” Shaw said during the live discussion.

Shaw alleged that President Bio manipulated the 2023 presidential election and accused his administration of turning Sierra Leone into a drug transshipment hub in West Africa.

In 2023, the current president of Sierra Leone, Dr. Julius Maada Bio, stole the national elections, and besides that, he is using the country to sell drugs, the country is now a hub transshipment in West Africa,” he said.

He further stated that international bodies were already examining the disputed election results. According to Shaw, “the European Union, the United Nations are all involved in investigating the 2023 elections,” but he claimed that the United States had not taken sufficient action.

He added that many Sierra Leoneans were “hoping and praying that Donald Trump would do the same thing to remove the dictator, Julius Maada Bio.”

During the broadcast, Shaw went beyond Sierra Leone, expressing broad support for foreign military intervention in countries facing disputed governance. “In any country where democracy is undermined or questioned, I fully support Donald Trump to launch an invasion, to remove the dictators therein,” he said.

The BBC program did not present evidence to support Shaw’s allegations, and his claims reflect his personal views.

President Bio and the Sierra Leone government have consistently rejected accusations of election rigging and criminal activity, maintaining that the 2023 elections were conducted in line with the country’s laws.
