The Judiciary of Sierra Leone has engaged in training and capacitating judges from all cadres of the superior court of judicature in the country.
The training incorporated different judges and international judges to ensure that, the goal is achieved.
The Chief Justice for the Republic of Sierra Leone, his Lordship Justice Desmond Babatunde Edwards said that the judiciary is well set and every mechanism is put in place ahead of the election. He added that training and capacitating staff remains a key priority.
“This may not be the first time we are having training on Electoral Justice but this is the first time we are having all our judges from all cadre of the Superior Court of Judicature namely the high court, supreme court, the court of appeal to be involved in a training either as a participant or facilitators,’’ he said.
He added that training remains an integral part of the judiciary’s continued professional development and the capacity-building program remains a key to them.
Justice Edwards said the judiciary plays a very eminent role in the country as well as the electoral process as when candidates feel dissatisfied they will seek the court to intervene and give a final judgment through a process called electoral justice.
“Electoral Justice therefore in general terms involves the means and mechanism for ensuring a defeat action procedure related to the electoral process,’’ he said.
