The Vice President of Sierra Leone, Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh, recently visited the Connaught Hospital to oversee the progress of two significant development projects – a solar installation and a burns unit. These projects aim to enhance the hospital’s capabilities and services.

The burns unit, a crucial addition to the hospital, will provide training for medical staff in treating burn victims, a skill that has been lacking in Sierra Leone. Additionally, a 1-megawatt solar energy system is being installed to ensure a sustainable power supply for the facility. The Electronic Medical Records system, initiated by the Vice President’s office a year ago, will also be operationalized as part of these projects.

During his visit, VP Jalloh inspected the new microbiology lab, dialysis center, and trauma centers. These new facilities will significantly improve diagnosis and patient care. Once completed, the Burns Unit will also offer specialized training on burns management and care to neighboring countries like Guinea and Liberia.

The Vice President expressed his admiration for the hospital’s transformation under the leadership of Dr. Kapuwa. He noted that the progress made at Connaught Hospital reflects the dedication, hard work, and commitment of the management and staff. The installation of the 1MW solar power system was highlighted as a groundbreaking initiative to ensure sustainable energy supply for essential medical services.

Overall, the ongoing projects at Connaught Hospital are a testament to the government’s commitment to improving healthcare infrastructure and services in Sierra Leone.

The Minister of Health, Dr. Austin Demby, commended the Vice President for his exemplary leadership in advancing Sierra Leone’s healthcare agenda. Dr. Demby highlighted the overarching vision driving the solar power project at Connaught Hospital, revealing that 18 hospitals and 260 Primary Health Units (PHUs) are in the process of transitioning to renewable energy as part of a comprehensive national strategy for sustainable healthcare.

“These groundbreaking initiatives, spearheaded by the President and Vice President, are poised to set a new standard for healthcare transformation in the region,” Dr. Demby emphasized.

Dr. Kapuwa, the Hospital Care Manager, echoed Dr. Demby’s sentiments in his address, affirming the hospital’s steadfast commitment to enhancing health services. Dr. Kapuwa assured the public that all projects are progressing according to schedule and pledged to maintain the highest standards in healthcare delivery. “Our ultimate goal is to establish Connaught Hospital as a beacon of excellence, offering world-class healthcare services to the people of Sierra Leone,” Dr. Kapuwa declared.

In conclusion, the Vice President pledged to revisit in the upcoming months to assess the progress of key projects, particularly the solar energy system and the Burns & Reconstructive Centre.

He also confirmed the unwavering dedication of His Excellency the President, Rtd. Brig. Dr. Julius Maada Bio, to officially commissioning these transformative initiatives. The Vice President commended the dedication of healthcare professionals and reiterated the government’s resolute commitment to fortifying healthcare infrastructure for the betterment of all citizens.
