The Vice President, Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh, made an unannounced visit to the Ministry of Employment, Labour, and Social Security on January 10th, 2025.

The visit was part of the Presidency’s ongoing engagement with various Ministries to evaluate their activities.

During the visit, Minister Mohamed Rahman Swaray informed the Vice President about MELSS’s plans for 2025, which include submitting the Workers’ Compensation, Social Protection, and Safety Bill to Parliament for enactment.

These bills aim to improve the welfare of workers by ensuring fair pay, compensation, and a conducive working environment.

The Minister also assured the Vice President that the Ministry is working on a succession plan, localization efforts, and leadership development to ensure that Sierra Leoneans assume leadership and management roles in companies.

In response, the Vice President expressed his satisfaction with the Ministry’s work over the past year.

He praised the Minister’s vision for transforming the labour sector, particularly in consolidating peace and harmony in the workplace, utilizing technology through the Labour Market Information System (LMIS), and digitizing work permits.

The Vice President also assessed the Ministry’s infrastructure challenges, including a tour of the ongoing office construction site.

He expressed appreciation for the Ministry’s resilience and assured them of his unwavering support to complete and operationalize the building.

This Presidency and Ministerial Engagement is an initiative aimed at routinely inspecting Ministries to evaluate their progress, plans, and challenges. It provides the Presidency with firsthand information on how best to support these Ministries in fulfilling their mandates.
