Kate Krontiris, wife of Chief Minister Dr. David Moinina Sengeh, has officially become a citizen of Sierra Leone after taking the Oath of Allegiance on Monday, May 11, 2026.
In a public statement issued following the ceremony, Krontiris described the occasion as a historic and emotional moment for her family, noting that it marked the first time all members of the family shared the same citizenship — that of the Republic of Sierra Leone.
“Today, Monday, May 11, 2026, is the day that all members of my family finally share one citizenship together – that of the Republic of Sierra Leone,” she stated.

Krontiris said she took the oath in the presence of her family and expressed gratitude to President Dr. Julius Maada Bio for granting her request for naturalization in accordance with the laws of Sierra Leone.
She stated that Sierra Leone had long become home to her in spirit and in practice, even before officially becoming a citizen.
Reflecting on her personal journey, Krontiris recalled first visiting Sierra Leone in 2013 alongside her then-boyfriend, David Sengeh, whom she described as having “cool dreadlocks and a bottomless love for Salone.”
She also recounted key moments in the family’s life in Sierra Leone, including bringing their daughter, Nyaanina, to the country for her first visit 10 years ago, and later moving into their Smart Farm home after Dr. Sengeh was appointed Chief Innovation Officer.
Krontiris further reflected on the birth of their second daughter, Peynina, and the family’s continued stay in Sierra Leone during Dr. Sengeh’s appointments as Minister of Basic and Senior Secondary Education and later Chief Minister.

According to her statement, each phase of public service deepened the family’s commitment to national development and strengthened their roots in Sierra Leone.
She noted that over the years the country had influenced not only their family life, but also her own work, creativity, friendships, and sense of purpose.
Krontiris also expressed appreciation to Sierra Leoneans whom she said helped her feel connected to the country through music, creativity, leadership, civic engagement, and travel experiences across different parts of Sierra Leone.
“Today, I feel profoundly happy, proud, and privileged – and so extremely hopeful for the next chapter ahead,” she stated, adding that she now looks forward to contributing to Sierra Leone as a citizen of the Republic.
Her naturalization comes as the Sengeh family continues to play visible roles in public service and national development in Sierra Leone.
